        About

Sarah Brookes is the founder and proprietor of Brookes Family Mediation.

Sarah trained as a family mediator with the Family Mediators Association, thefma.co.uk,  of which she is a member. She is also a member of the Family Mediation Council, www.familymediationcouncil.org.uk

Sarah has over 15 years experience of working as a family lawyer; dealing extensively with issues such as child arrangements, divorce, family finances and domestic abuse.

At Brookes Family Mediation we firmly believe that the court should be the absolute last option for resolving family matters. We believe that, at the difficult time of separation, you should be supported to make your own decisions about arrangements for your children, and about how the family finances should be re organised, just as you made those decisions within the relationship. You, as parents, are the experts on your children, and you are therefore the most qualified to make decisions about the future arrangements that will best meet your children's needs.

Within court proceedings you work against each other, as opponents; at Brookes Family Mediation, you will be supported and assisted by your mediator, to work together, to find the best solutions for you both, and for any children. Court proceedings inevitably conclude with a perceived 'winner', creating an imbalance, which can have a hugely negative impact on future communications. If you have children together you are most likely going to need to be able to communicate for many years to come. At Brookes Family Mediation, we are committed to helping you achieve long term solutions that support positive future communication between you.

We understand that it is not always possible to take time away from work, or to arrange childcare, to enable you to attend day time appointments. We therefore offer evening and Saturday mediation appointments, at a range of venues across East Sussex. We are also happy to have an initial chat with you on the telephone, during evenings and Saturdays.
